This piece evolved as a way to express the intertwining stories of many women. Women that have come before me, women I have had the honored of knowing and those that will come after.
As I created the piece I decided to leave the pencil and charcoal markings showing in some areas, as a symbol that we are all a work in progress. The beginnings of our stories are as important as the finished piece.
As women we struggle, we grow, we help, we overcome, and from these growth phases we become strong. We can be likened to a Lotus flower growing up from murky water and reaching for the sun, our beauty growing as we overcome challenges and reach for new potentials.
